SOPHIE
DRAKE (Director)

Sophie is a theatre director and dramaturg based in London, focusing on putting women and their stories centre-stage.

 

She has worked on large scale shows in the West End and on Broadway with actors including Ian McKellen, Penelope Wilton, and Tom Hollander. She was recently the Associate Director to Rupert Goold on the Broadway transfer of Peter Morgan’s Olivier-award-winning play Patriots, and the Off-Broadway transfer of The Hunt.

 

Her recent production of Angus Cerini’s The Bleeding Tree at Southwark Playhouse opened to fantastic reviews and five Off-West End nominations, including Best Director.

 

Sophie works as a dramaturg on a freelance basis for large scale producers, producing companies and independent artists, vigorously enhancing thematic and narrative coherence, and developing scripts from nascent stages through to polished performances.

 

Recent credits include: dramaturgy on a new play by Morgan Lloyd Malcolm; The Society for New Cuisine by Chris Fung (Underbelly- Edinburgh Fringe); Script Reader for the Women’s Prize for Playwriting with Paines Plough; and a tenure with Broken Silence Theatre Company, running a script report service & new writing programme.
