HARRY
MACKRILL (Director)

Harry is a director for stage and screen. He is currently Co-Founder and Creative Director of The Lot Productions, alongside producer Nisha Oza, making independent work with inclusive mindset.

 

Harry directed The Lot’s inaugural production, What It Means by James Corley, adapted from the essay On Being Different by Merle Miller, at Wilton’s Music Hall in October 2023 (“vital theatre” – The Guardian).

 

Their first slate of commissions is called ADAPT, for which he is dramaturg, and includes:

Burnt Sugar by Avni Doshi, adapted by Carmen Nasr
The Housing Lark by Sam Selvon, adapted by Ayesha Antoine as a Calypso Opera

 

Harry is currently a recipient of the Leeds School of the Arts Doctorate Scholarship (2023 – 2026) for his practice-based PhD Research Project titled Using queer dramaturgy as a research tool to understand the impact of Section 28 through actor training.

 

He regularly teaches across the BA and MA Acting Programmes at MOUNTVIEW ACADEMY OF THEATRE ARTS and within the Criminal Justice System for SYNERGY THEATRE PROJECT.

 

He was Associate Director for the Kiln Theatre’s reopening Season 2018 – 2019, and the inaugural Resident Director, supported by the Esmee Fairbairn Foundation, for Indhu Rubasingham’s tenure at the Tricycle Theatre 2013 – 2015, where he assisted on projects including Lolita Chakrabarti’s Red Velvet, Moira Buffini’s Handbagged and Marcus Gardley’s The House that Will Not Stand.
