COMPOSITION

Oliver Vibrans is an Ivor Novello award winning Composer, Producer, Musical Director and Sound Designer based in the UK. Oliver has composed music for the concert hall, theatre, film, art installations and radio.

Recent commissions include Hatchet Job for Royal Northern College of Music, The Music and Meditation Podcast for BBC Concert orchestra, Monomyth for the Halle, music for two episodes of Charles Hazlewood’s landmark documentary Reinventing the Orchestra for Sky Arts with Paraorchestra, Treading Water for the BBC Philharmonic for BBC Radio 3, More Up, a piece for Chamber orchestra and electronics for The Halle, BBC Philharmonic and The Able Orchestra, winner of an Ivor Novello award, nominated for a Royal Philharmonic Society award 2020, Suspended Dance for BBC Radio 3, part of the Composers Postcard Project, From the Crowd, a commemoration of Peterloo, part of the unveiling of the memorial by Jeremy Deller, The Coat for Royal College of Music, part of the Great Exhibitionists series.

Here and Where? for Stopgap, Beneath Our Feet, a podcast series – collaboration with NYT, Bartholomew Abominations for Naked Productions & BBC Radio 4, Graeae’s Midwich Cuckoos, an adaptation of John Wyndham’s classic sci fi for BBC Radio 4, A Snail of Two Cities, a comic animated short film, Before the Flame Goes Out for Hydrocracker, The Stars Come Out At Night an art installation for Stellar Projects at Leeds Art gallery, many digital projects for Night Train Theatre, LipService and Extraordinary Bodies, The Vostock K Incident for BBC R&D, an experimental radio drama that utilises electronic devices such as phones and laptops to create an improvised surround sound experience.

MUSICAL DIRECTION

Oliver was Assistant Musical Director on The Threepenny Opera, a co-production between Graeae, The New Wolsey, West Yorkshire Playhouse, Nottingham Playhouse and Birmingham Rep. He was also Assistant Musical Director for Ramps on the Moon production of The Who’s Tommy. Oliver is famed for his collaborative process – in Edward II at Cambridge Arts Theatre, Oliver worked with the cast devising a sound palette which was recorded, sampled and used as a basis for the score. In his commission for the Liberty Festival at the Southbank, Oliver used the 30th article of The Universal Declaration of Human Rights as the basis for a multi media soundscape.The piece also used found sound and vox pops.
