RICHARD CANT IS, ONCE AGAIN, SPENDING A NIGHT WITH REG

Last Friday, Kevin Elyot’s wickedly funny and deeply affecting My Night with Reg had its press night at the Apollo Theatre, after transferring to the West End from the Donmar Warehouse. My Night with Reg defined a moment in the lives of gay men and became an instant classic. Set in the mid-80s during the height of the mounting AIDS crisis, the play examines the fallout within a group of gay friends after the apparent promiscuity of Reg, a core member but who, interestingly, never appears on stage. Richard Cant is reprising his role as Bernie, and has received fantastic reviews, along with the play as a whole, across the board. This is definitely one of the ‘must sees’ of the season.

“There’s not a joke lost, a look that goes wasted, a pang missed. Richard Cant and Matt Bardock are spot-on as the bickering, hopelessly mismatched Bernie and Benny.” Dominic Cavendish, THE TELEGRAPH, ****

Richard Cant’s Bernie and Matt Bardock’s Benny are great opposites-attract double act… part farce, part tragedy and wholly worth seeing.” Dominic Maxwell, THE TIMES, ****

“It’s a warm, witty, fantastically interesting play about an oddball circle of friends whose sexuality is crucial to the drama without limiting them as characters…. My Night with Reg feels startlingly, defiantly fresh.” Andrzej Lukowski, TIME OUT, ****

My Night with Regruns at the Apollo Theatre until the 11th April 2015.
