ANGELS IN AMERICA……IN AUSTRALIA
DeObia Oparei is currently starring as Belize in Eamon Flack’s production of Angels in America at the Belvoir St Theatre in Sydney. It is the first time that Tony Kushner’s two-part, seven-hour epic has been revived in the city in its complete form since it debuted at the Sydney Theatre Company in 1993 and it has proved, yet again, to be a huge success.
“DeObia Oparei is a powerful presence as Belize, hulking, graceful and sassy to boot.” Jason Blake, Sydney Morning Herald.
“Deobia Oparei as gay nurse and former drag queen Belize and Amber McMahon as the jilted Mormon wife Harper….they’re two of the most rewarding performances.” Benjamin Neutze, aussietheatre.com
“Similarly excellent is DeObia Oparei in the role of Prior’s ex and now nurse Belize…” Jodi McAlister, Australian Stage.
We wish DeObia all the best for the rest of the run which ends on 28th July.
