RICHARD BEECHAM WILL BE PLAYING FOR TIME TO MARK THE 70TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE LIBERATION OF AUSCHWITZ
Today marks the 70th anniversary of the Liberation of Auschwitz, and one of the tributes this year will be Richard Beecham’s production of Arthur Miller’s Playing for Time at the Crucible Theatre, Sheffield. Set to star Sian Phillips, Playing for Time portrays the harrowing true story of a group of Jewish female musicians, imprisoned in Auschwitz. The Commandant of the Camp enjoys classical music, and forces the women to literally ‘play for their lives’ – as long as the orchestra please him, they avoid the gas chamber. The production also marks the centenary of Miller’s birth.
Playing for Time opens at the Crucible Theatre, Sheffield on the 12 March to 4 April 2015.
